Tackle It Tuesday #27 – ‘Flowers’ and utensils

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

This week’s tackle is a two-parter. Partially a continuation of last week’s organization of Abby and Hannah’s room, and also a quick drawer clean-up, which happened spur of the moment when I was putting dishes away, so I don’t have any ‘before’ pictures. You can probably imagine for yourselves though and not be that far off. :)

First though, I did find some stickers for the girls to decorate their new clothing storage bins with. They’re actually scrapbooking stickers, but they worked really well and match the ‘flower’ decor in their room almost as if they were made to go with it. I also labeled each bin with their names, just with a black marker for now.

They are quite proud of their decorating jobs:

Here’s how Hannah’s turned out – there’s a big glob of flowers over one spot on the left side bin because she didn’t like how I wrote her name the first time, so covered it up… Apparently she’s not fond of a cursive ‘H’. That’s Hannah for you.

Abby did a great job on hers too – it was interesting to see the difference between a first grader and a pre-kindergartner with sticker placement.

Here’s how the underside of the bunk bed looks now – pretty nice, I must say! :)

Well, as long as you ignore the nasty, stained carpet in their room anyway.

The second part of the tackle came about when I was putting dishes away and realized that I could finally pull all of the ‘toddler’ and ‘baby’ spoons out of our utensil drawer. Then I realized how gross the drawer itself was with crumbs and such and ended up emptying it completely, down to taking off the shelf paper it was lined with:

I had some extra contact paper, so put down a new layer, then added some non-slip rubbery stuff and put the silverware organizer back in:

Then I just added all of the utensils back in, after tossing a few that were broken. I put the ones that we don’t use often behind the silverware organizer and the ones that we do use a lot up front. In this drawer, the organizer holds our sharp knives and miscellaneous/serving silverware. Here’s the ‘after’:

It’s amazing how much of a difference just something small like cleaning out a drawer makes!

Part 3 of the girls’ room tackle to come sometime soon – I did get everything switched over into the one dresser that’s staying but the girls need to get their room cleaned up the rest of the way and I need to get Ron to move the extra dresser out so I can play around with re-arranging things. :)

I need to tackle my utensil drawer too. I actually tackled a few other big jobs around the house the past couple of days. I think I’ll hit the utensil drawer tomorrow. Who knew unemployment could cause me to be so productive?!?

The girls storage bins look super cute by they way!

I am in the process of doing my girls’ room in a flower theme too- that’s a great idea with the stickers! I think I might even have those exact stickers in my scrapbook black hole (another TT project for another time….. ;) )
