Yup – more soccer!
The girls started the spring season this week. It’s basically a continuation of last fall – same team, same uniforms, same everything. Except that Abby’s practices are on Thursdays at 5:30pm instead of Tuesdays. So that means 2 nights of heading straight to an activity after daycare while the girls eat snacks in the car.
Abby’s first practice went well on Thursday. My biggest worry was how to keep Becca off of the field and out of the way. She and I kicked her soccer ball around a little bit, and then she discovered the school playground.
I didn’t get to actually watch much of the practice.
Yesterday Abby and Hannah both had games. Hannah’s was at 10:00 am, so we got up, ready and out of here first thing in the morning. Abby still wasn’t feeling completely well, but I didn’t have much of a choice about taking her to Hannah’s game since Ron was working. We decided to see how Abby was feeling by lunchtime to decide if she would play in her game or not. Abby played on the playground during Hannah’s entire game. Becca sat in my chair and ate 3 snacks but then got restless. Since there really wasn’t anywhere for her to run around or play (the playground at that school is across the parking lot from the soccer fields), she and I did several laps walking around Hannah’s field. By the end of the game, Becca was tired of me grabbing her off the fields (Hannah’s and any other).
Hannah did incredibly well. In fact I would probably say that out of the 6 girls on the field (they play 3 vs. 3 in her age group) she pretty much dominated. She scored several goals (not difficult since they play without goalies) and even blocked the other team from scoring at least once. Thankfully she seems to have gotten over her issue with being upset whenever someone else got the ball or scored a goal. She cheered for her team every time someone scored. I was really proud of her.
We had to stop at the store after Hannah’s game since we had to bring snack to Abby’s game and I hadn’t made it to the store the night before with Ron being up at the hospital until late with his family during his mom’s surgery. Taking all 3 girls to the store isn’t something I’ve done much recently, and I was again reminded of why yesterday. They complained about riding in the cart, begged for about every snack they saw, and whined when I said no. Yep, normal kid stuff.
After a quick rush home to unload groceries (I bought a few other things than just snack for Abby’s game) and eat a quick lunch, we headed out to Abby’s game. She was feeling better and she wanted to play.
I could tell, however, that she still wasn’t feeling completely up to par. And that it was the first week back. Her team played pretty well in general, but they lost 3-1. Abby was goalie during the first quarter and she let the only shot that the other team got through – I think she forgot she was supposed to stop it. She played midfield (‘everywhere’) during the second and third quarters and then was a forward during the fourth quarter. She was pretty whipped by then though, so just kind of wandered around the field after the other girls.
Becca really wanted to play on the playground, but I wanted to watch the game and she’s too little to go over there by herself. A few snacks helped keep her occupied at first, but she spent the third quarter of the game seeing how far away from me I would let her wander, or trying to join the game out on the field. Finally she wanted to sit in the stroller and buckled herself in. When she wanted out a few minutes later, I wasn’t too sympathetic – she buckled herself in there after all. And the game was almost over anyway.
As we left Abby’s game, Kristi called and invited us to go out to the park with them. I was inclined to head home, but all 3 girls wanted to go, so we went. It was such a gorgeous day out anyway – perfect for the park.
The kids all played well together. They had fun with the sand toys,
digging in the dirt,
swinging,
flipping around a bar,
sitting on it,
and doing flips off of it,
playing with a football,
and going back
and forth
across the footbridge.
(Hi Becca!)
The girls and I were all exhausted when we got home, so we hung out and relaxed until dinner. After baths, I took Abby and Hannah out to the mall – Abby wanted to spend her birthday and tooth fairy money, and Hannah needed new sandals. Ron stayed home with Becca to try and get her to sleep without all of the fireworks that we’ve been having with her lately.
When we got home, both of them were asleep in the recliner. And I think that Becca must’ve been truly exhausted from 3 nights of sleeping on her floor and such a busy day, because she didn’t let out a peep when Ron moved her into her bed. And as far as I know, she stayed in her bed all night. Finally. We’ll have to see how things go tonight though.
Ron’s mom is doing well. Ron took Becca and went up to visit this morning, but Becca wouldn’t have anything to do with going into the room, so he didn’t stay long. She’ll probably be in the hospital another few days. We can’t take all 3 girls up to visit since Abby’s still somewhat sick (coughing a lot anyway), but hopefully can go up and see her at home next weekend.
Today we’re relaxing at home since Ron’s off. We played outside earlier and Ron is out fishing from the neighbor’s pier with Abby and Hannah while Becca’s got the basement to herself. I probably should get down there and see what she’s up to.

Not so thrilled with the back end pictures of yours truly, but great pictures otherwise. I think I got one of the four other kids using our sand toys with none of our kids anywhere around.
