That would be Becca’s title for this post. Mine would be something on the order of, “How to keep your child from toppling into the creek – or onto the rocks – as she gleefully hurls pieces of bread at geese”. That seemed kind of long though.
To be honest – I don’t have a ton of goose-feeding pictures (aww, come on, you are disappointed, right!) or very good ones at least. My suggested title for this post should give you some idea of the reason why. I did turn the camera over to Mary for a while so I could keep a white-knuckled grip on Becca’s belt loop from behind, but seeing as Mary was encumbered with a 4-month-old in a front carrier, and trying to catch shots of 5 kids who were all running from goose to creek to bread wrapper… We’ll just let the photos speak for themselves, I guess.
Matthew had the right idea – I just wish I could’ve convinced Becca to stay on the bridge…
Instead, she decided to try dipping her feet (shoes and all) in the water with some other kids.
Seeing her lean over, trying to put the bread right in the water about gave me a heart attack, so we relocated to the creek bank. Which was not without its own perils – like large rocks between the grass and the water.
(I love Emma’s sunglasses!)
The ‘big’ kids knew enough to stay back from the water’s edge and toss the bread at the geese.
Or to feed the geese that came right up on land – right up next to us, almost grabbing the bread right out of our hands.
For a while I was convinced that I would either be fishing a very wet 2-year-old out of the creek, or running her to the emergency room with a major injury from falling on the rocks.
But then she finally decided that she could feed geese just as well while sitting down. Phew!
It was so cute though – she was talking to the geese, saying “here, goose!” and “c’mon eat!” and laughing…
After we ran out of bread, Becca decided to explore on her own. Let’s just say that I’m glad I saw her take off and followed her across the bridge.
Next – where you end up when you let the toddler lead the way…

I am always paranoid around the geese with the kids. they are NOT friendly animals and I am always scared they are going to attack someone. I made Aaron sit down the last time we did it also for the same reason. I was scared he was going to be top heavy and fall in.
