For a good cause:

I remember when…

Well, actually I don’t remember – or at least there are a lot of things that I struggle with trying to think back to the ‘how’, ‘why’ or even ‘when’ something happened. I think that’s one reason why I’ve always taken so many pictures at events, on trips and pretty much anywhere I go.  I just have a horrible long-term memory.

Which is one reason that I started this blog to begin with – not only to record my current thoughts and what’s happening in our lives right now, but also to put down into words the things that I do remember. Whether memories from childhood, high school, college years or even from when my kids were babies – I want to be able to share the things that I remember with my kids. And their kids someday as well.

There have been some memes that I’ve seen in the past, and have tried to participate in, but it seems that they don’t exist any longer. I went looking for some kind of a ‘memory’ meme, but couldn’t find anything that exactly fits what I want to do.

So I thought maybe I should create my own.  :)

For those of us who are ‘Mommybloggers’ – and even for those who aren’t – I think that we want to be able to put down our thoughts and memories for our kids to read someday, or even just for ‘posterity’. But it seems like, at least in my case, there’s always something going on that I want to write about instead, or I just don’t even know where to begin. After all – the previous 37 years of my life is a pretty broad topic.  ;)

What I want to do here then, is to have – not so much a meme necessarily, but maybe more of a writing prompt, and even a tiny bit of accountability. Just to give me a place to start, an idea to get the thoughts (and memories) going, and a reason to stop putting off writing about them.

And I’d love to have you all join in as well!

Here’s what I’m envisioning for what I’m calling, “I remember when…”.  Every Sunday I will put up a sticky post at the top of my site here, that will remain all week. There’s no specific day associated with this – just post whenever you can find the time or when your family obligations permit. I’ll put up a Mr. Linky for everyone to add their links to when you do post, and I hope that during the week, as you do find the time, that you’ll try to visit other participants.

There will be a topic every week – just a simple prompt that you can interpret any way you wish. After all, this is about you and your memories. You can include as much or as little as you like, in any fashion that you want. Whether by using photos, poetry, stories, or just simply recording your thoughts – there’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to be involved. I’ll even put the next week’s topic at the bottom of the linky post as well, so you can start thinking of ideas ahead of time. All I ask is that you please link back to this site somewhere in your post – preferably to that week’s sticky post.

Feel free the use the header graphic above (right-click to save) – or create your own if you wish.  And to help spread the word, I’d love if you would post about this on your own site (you can use the text in green below), or add the button (below) so others can join in as well.

We’ll start in one week, so that gives you some extra time to think of ideas and start writing. The sticky post and Mr. Linky will go up bright and early next Sunday morning, and the first topic will be:

I remember when… I first moved away from home“. Whether to college, living with a friend or family member – what are your memories of the first time you lived away from home? Share them, starting on Sunday, October 5th, at MomOf3Girls.net!

I can’t wait to read what everyone comes up with – see you next Sunday!  :)

I think it’s a great idea.I keep a journal for my daughter to read later in life. It keeps all major milestones for the first year of her life.
