Tackling… sick girls and grocery shopping

Well, sick girl that is – at least so far Abby is the only one who’s come down with whatever this is. I’m rather hoping that she’s got whatever Becca and I had a couple of weeks ago – so at least that way I only have to worry about whether or not Hannah will get it eventually.

You see, Abby woke up yesterday morning with a fever of about 103. It’s stayed anywhere from 101 to 103 even with Tylenol or Motrin all day yesterday and into today. She’s coughing and has a runny nose, and has pretty much done nothing but lie curled up watching TV. Am I worried that it’s the flu? Yes. Even though she did have the flu mist a couple of weeks ago, it’s possible she was exposed before that. And I guess there is the whole H1N1 possibility, but our doctor didn’t seem concerned when I called yesterday – they basically just said to have her take it easy, drink lots of fluids, give her Tylenol and/or Motrin for the fever and call them back if she gets a lot sicker. Abby doesn’t get sick very often (she’s only missed a handful of days of school in total since starting preschool 5 years ago), but when she does get sick it usually hits her pretty hard.

Sigh. I’m just glad that (so far) Hannah seems healthy. We’re supposed to go to my friend Mary’s for the weekend – so at this point are just watching everyone closely and will re-assess when the weekend gets closer to see if it’s do-able or not.

So my tackle for today is to take care of a not-feeling-so-well Abby and try to get caught up on things around here. Like laundry (still working on the whole fall/winter clothing switchover) – and grocery shopping. I usually go on Sundays but didn’t make it on Sunday or yesterday. Obviously I’m not going to be taking Abby with me to the store, so I’m just hoping that Ron gets home at a decent hour tonight – and that I’m awake enough to go once he does get home. I keep falling asleep on the couch and sleeping for hours during the evenings – which is making it difficult to tackle much of anything at the moment.

What are you tackling this week? And check out other Tackle It Tuesday posts over at 5 Minutes for Mom!

Hey Deb – Holly had the same thing last week! She woke up with a crazy high fever (104.3) at 4:30am on Thursday and it didn’t really come down until Saturday. Completely gone by Sat. afternoon and then her appetite came back with a vengance. She’s been a little sniffley (sp?) and is coughing a little more now but that’s about it. Doctor said maybe virus maybe H1N1 but they weren’t testing. Would only test for Influenza A and then if that was positive then it was likely H1N1. So who knows what it is!?! It’s going around school like mad though! 9 out of Holly’s class on Friday and 5 yesterday! I’m surprised we’re not on the list of places closed today! Hope she’s feeling better and that the rest of you stay healthy! – Anne

We had the flu a couple of weeks ago and it sounds the same. I will say that my fever would go away and then re-spike later on. Make sure she doesn’t have a fever for a full 24hrs if you are trying to keep others safe in your house. Hope she starts feeling better and no one else gets it!
