Rollin’ around, birthday style!

So last Sunday was Hannah’s 7th birthday party. We had her party a week (to the day) before her actual birthday because past experience has taught me one thing about birthday parties and Thanksgiving weekend – they don’t mix. It’s the difference between last year when we held her party on her birthday (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) and only 3 people were able to come – and this year when all but two of the 12 kids we invited came, plus assorted siblings as well. It was a great group!

We held the party at the same roller skating rink where we did Abby’s party last spring. I was a little concerned that 6 and 7-year-olds might not be as adept on skates, but everyone did really well. We had a few parents stay to help their kids out too. I didn’t get as many pictures of the kids all skating as I would’ve liked, due both to the fact that I was in a great deal of pain, as well as the dim lighting at the rink – it’s hard to get any kind of pictures that aren’t grainy, blurry or dark (or all of the above). Here are a few that I did manage to snap:

Just like before, Becca did really well on the plastic skates that fit over her shoes. She may even be ready to graduate up to the ‘big kid’ skates sometime soon, but we’ll see. Hannah, who was very unsure on skates last spring, really took off this time and even went all the way around the rink by herself without holding on. She still preferred practicing in the party room though.

Abby loves to roller skate and she’s getting quite good at it. This time she skated for a while on regular skates and then decided that she was ready to try in-line skates for the very first time. She was a bit nervous about it – but didn’t need to be. She took right off like she’d been skating on them for years:

Even little Eric got into the spirit of the party and borrowed Becca’s plastic skates for a few minutes with Mary’s help:

He also had fun riding in a different fashion though – one of the many ways that Mary found to keep him occupied (and in the general vicinity of the party):

The cake was a big hit – there wasn’t even any to bring home after the party was over. Thank goodness Mary and I had made cupcakes too, or there wouldn’t have been any cake-type leftovers. Which would’ve been a tragedy, of course.  ;)

Hannah had quite the pile of gifts to open and received some awesome presents that she’s absolutely thrilled with, including a candy ring maker, coloring supplies, Polly Pocket and Littlest Pet Shop toys, jewelry making set, a Barbie doll, and more – I’ll have to watch the video back before we can do thank you cards, since I wasn’t able to really pay attention to which presents came from whom. She also got 4 new Webkinz – like this polar bear from my mom (who couldn’t be at the party):

All in all, I think we managed to pull off a rather fun party, even if I wasn’t exactly a lot of help during much of it. I don’t think Hannah (or any of the other kids) even noticed though, thank goodness.  :)

As you know, Shelby’s 7th birthday was the 29th. We also had a roller skating party. The kids had a blast and most of the parents skated as well. I had my camera in tow so I declined wheels. *LOL* I got a few good pictures of folks on skates, but you’re right…for the most part, phoyography is impossible. All in all, we has a fabulous time!!! I’m sure ur guests did as well.
