Spread the love

This post is part of the HEALTHY ESSENTIALS® 2014 program by Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. and The Motherhood, who sent me a box of products and compensated me for my time. Opinions, experiences and photos shared here are all my own, and I hope you enjoy them.

I love this time of year, especially after a cold and snowy winter like we just had. The kids can get outside to run around and play, and we can play together as a family out in the yard as well. Whether the swinging or sliding in the backyard, drawing or painting with sidewalk chalk or watercolors out on the driveway, kicking, throwing or hitting balls around, or just relaxing on the front porch or back deck – I love that my family spends time outside as much as possible during the summer.

Last summer I bought badminton racquets and birdies so that I could introduce the girls to one of my own favorite summertime activities from when I was growing up. It’s still one of our favorite things to go outside and play in the evenings when the temperatures cool down and the sun isn’t so hot overhead. This year, my husband dug out our dusty, long-unused tennis racquets – and I’ve been hitting tennis balls in the street with Abbi or Hannah whenever it’s not too hot and sticky out too.

Becca’s favorite activities this summer are sidewalk chalk on the driveway or to decorate rocks, landscaping blocks, the stepping stones in our path and (as of today) wood chips with watercolor paints. The cooler temperatures that we’ve had this summer have made it easier to spend more time outdoors without having to spend money to go to a pool or beach, and I love that.

Along with summertime activities come the inevitable scrapes, bruises and bug bites that kids seem to be a magnet for, so we make sure to keep plenty of Band-Aids and Neosporin on hand. Even Becca can run inside to clean and bandage her own cuts and I often don’t even realize that she’s had a scrape until I see the Band-Aid on her knee or elbow, or wherever. I keep extra Band-Aids in the car, in my purse – you never know when your child (or someone else’s) is going to need one.

Moms4JNJConsumer-summer 001Band-Aids and Neosporin are only a couple of the HEALTHY ESSENTIALS® products that can make up your family first aid kit – whether you’re hanging out at home, on-the-go or traveling this summer, don’t forget to be prepared in case someone gets hurt. And don’t forget the sunscreen! We love Neutrogena’s Wet Skin sunscreens for beach, splash park or pool, and their Ultra Sheer Dry Touch sunscreen is always my go-to for everyone’s faces and for me since I hate to use the sprays on myself.

You can get tips & tools, coupons and offers at to help build your own family’s first aid kit – save up to $45!

Make sure that you’re set with all the essentials your family needs this summer and then – get outside and have fun spending time together as a family! 🙂
