Updates and Changes for the New Year!

Spread the love

2011-happy-new-year-graphic-10Wow, it’s 2011 already – and the New Year is always a good time to re-assess and look at how things are going and what can be updated/improved.  🙂 I’ve made a few decisions lately that will affect how this site runs, so thought I’d introduce those here. No worries, I’m not going anywhere – just trying to streamline and make everything work the best that it can. Both in my blogging and personal life – thus the changes. Nothing too major, but definitely a few things to take note of. See below – and hope you all have a very Happy New Year!

Contest Listings:

After 3 1/2 years of blogging and almost as long of doing my weekly contest listings/round-ups, I’ve come to the decision that it’s time to make a change. Back when I began listing contests, there were very few other sites doing so and I felt like I truly was providing a service to my readers. However nowadays, there are many, many sites who offer contest linkies on a recurring basis. And given that the code which runs my automated listings is based on ASP, run on a Windows server while I now have my site hosted on Linux – I’ve had difficulties trying to get the listings to properly work for a while now and still haven’t been able to display them on the main page.

Doing the contest listings as I have done in the past requires a fairly large amount of work on my part every week – yes, the listings are automated, but I still go in and review/edit each one to make sure it fits my format correctly and is a valid blog giveaway. I just don’t have time to do so and still provide the quantity and quality of actual review posts that I want to have here.

I’m sorry for the long explanation, but I feel it’s necessary to explain why I’m making these changes – there are many of you who’ve posted listings with me in the past and I want you all to know this has been a difficult decision I’ve struggled with over the past couple of months while taking an unplanned hiatus from doing the listings.

Although I don’t feel able to continue doing the contest listings as I’ve previously done here, I do want to provide a forum for those who would like to list their contests or for those who want to find giveaways to enter. So, I will be providing a contest linky – on Saturdays, like the previous round-up was posted. Please feel free to add your giveaway or to browse through and find some to click over to and enter.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported me in the past by listing or entering giveaways from my round-ups – I’ve truly enjoyed doing them and hope that someday I can get my code switched over to PHP so I can start the automated listings back up again.

Deals & Steals:

I sort of took an unanticipated break from doing these posts as well over the holiday season, but want to let you know that Deals & Steals will definitely be back – on a weekly basis again. One change however, is that I will be posting this on Mondays from now on, instead of Fridays. It makes more sense to start the week off with deals and discounts and other interesting information rather than ending it, so I think that this will be a good change. The first new Deals & Steals post will go up next Monday (1/10).

Other weekly posts:

I have a few ideas for things that I’m hopefully going to be adding to the site here in 2011 – including at least one more weekly themed type of post. More about that to come!  🙂

Blog Theme:

I don’t generally like to totally revamp my blog design very often – and in fact just re-did the look of the site only a few months ago. I still like the colors and graphics (and hope you do too!), but am feeling like it’s time for a change in theme/template. You’ve probably noticed that the headline/featured area at the top hasn’t worked correctly in a while – I’ve tried a couple of different plug-ins and still haven’t been able to get it to work. So over the next few weeks I’ll be tinkering around with things, so if you see things that look odd for a day or two, just please bear with me – all will work out and the final result will hopefully look even better and be more user-friendly.

Thank you:

I truly appreciate everyone who reads and subscribes to my site – you are all amazing and I thank you for your support. I love bringing you information about new products and services out there and sharing my thoughts and opinions with you all. I hope that 2011 brings you everything you are hoping and wishing for and thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything.
